Trial results for a study on COVID-19 testing and vaccination among Spanish speakers were posted on ClinicalTrials.gov on 2025-10-01, with 274 participants enrolled.
Background
COVID-19, a global pandemic, has disproportionately affected Latinx communities, with Spanish-speaking populations facing increased burdens of infection, hospitalization, and mortality. Significant barriers to COVID-19 testing and vaccination persist within these communities. Understanding and addressing the social, ethical, and behavioral implications (SEBI) of testing and vaccination is crucial to improve public health outcomes and ensure equitable access to preventative measures and care.
Trial design
This completed study, designated as Phase NA, enrolled 274 participants to investigate conditions related to COVID-19 and Vaccinations. The trial aimed to better understand the social, ethical, and behavioral implications of COVID-19 testing and vaccination within Latinx communities. Participants were assigned to either a NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group or a Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group.
Key results
The trial reported several key measurements related to COVID-19 testing and vaccination:
- Number of Subjects Ever Tested:
- In the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 70 participants were ever tested.
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 58 participants were ever tested.
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 64 participants were ever tested.
- Number of Subjects Ever Vaccinated:
- In the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 66 participants were ever vaccinated.
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 64 participants were ever vaccinated.
- In the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 69 participants were ever vaccinated.
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 67 participants were ever vaccinated.
- Number of Subjects Up to Date on Recommended Doses:
- In the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 22 participants were up to date on recommended doses.
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, 13 participants were up to date on recommended doses.
- Number of Doses Received:
- In the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, the mean number of doses received was 2.6 (Standard Deviation 1.1).
- In the Delayed NuestraSaludSegura Intervention group, the mean number of doses received was 2.6 (Standard Deviation 0.8).
What this means
The posted results offer descriptive data on COVID-19 testing and vaccination behaviors within Spanish-speaking Latinx communities participating in the NuestraSaludSegura Intervention study. The measurements provide insights into the number of individuals tested, vaccinated, and up-to-date on recommended doses across the intervention groups. These findings can contribute to understanding the impact of community-based interventions on health behaviors and inform future public health initiatives aimed at addressing disparities in COVID-19 prevention and care within these populations.
